Surveys? Some Opinions Are More Valuable than Others

| No TrackBacks

Some time ago, I was asked to sign up to take surveys from one of those e-Rewards sites that advertized that I could get American Airlines miles for answering questions about the stuff I buy and the way I shop. Okay, I can always use a few extra miles. Well, not long afterwards they sent me a message saying that AA had backed out and I would have to settle for the rewards they had. Okay, there seemed to be a number of worthwhile “rewards” but I never really started looking as I didn’t have enough points to get anything.

Once I got about $200 in points I started looking for rewards. Ah, most were for things I would never use or were discounts (off the full price) for luxury items I can’t afford or don’t need. Yes, they have Alaska Airline points but I don’t fly Alaska that often so the points kept building up and I stopped taking surveys.

Then my daughter tells me that she’s signed up with the same site but she gets to redeem her points for a debit card she can take to Macys—and buy stuff. The best I can get from Macy’s is a small discount on a purchase of $50—I can get that most of the time anyway by clipping a coupon from the paper.

I wrote e-Rewards and they wrote back (after 3 days) telling me that my “sponsor” does not have any better offers. Apparently, some opinions are worth more than others. Yup, we’re not in the same demographic so is it age/sex discrimination? Sure looks like it.
